ISHTAR & THE NAMELESS GODS sing:

Shala-lala-la

ISHTAR speaks:

Open to me!

CHARON answers:

Who art thou?

Whither goest thou?

What is thy name?

ISHTAR:

I am one of you.

My boat is named,

"Collector of souls."

My oars are,

"Those who make the hair to bristle."

"Goad" is the hold.

And the rudder is named,

"Steering straight down the middle."

NAMELESS GODS sing:

Blood runs rivers in the rain

ISHTAR:

I have cleaved the heavens.

I have opened the horizon.

I have traversed the earth.

Behold, I am the heir of eternity.

NAMELESS GODS sing:

Little red ball of clay in my hand,

Little ball of clay, take the shape of a man

CHARON: Drink not of the water!

ISHTAR: It’s cold

CHARON: Drink not of the water!

ISHTAR: It’s clear

CHARON: Drink not of the water!

ISHTAR: Cypress

CHARON: Drink not of the water!

ISHTAR: Grows near

ISHTAR & THE NAMELESS GODS sing:

Shala-lala-la

ISHTAR:

Over the mountains and under the sea

Seven gifts I give to thee

Seven gates which seven guard

Dead are tested, mortals barred

PERSEPHONE:

Who art thou?

Whence comest thou?

What doest thou seek within the mist and shadow?

ISHTAR:

Give me the water

Cold, flowing water

I am parched of thirst and dying

I have come to claim my patrimony

I have flown the grievous circle

My suffering, at last, completed

Give me the water

Cold, flowing water

Give me the water

The holy water

I am the child

Of Star-filled heaven

And Earth below

Yet as you know

My race arose

From heaven alone

From heaven

From heaven

From heaven alone

NAMELESS GODS sing:

Red is the blood and red is the mud,

What I make take a shape, and it bake in the sun

ISHTAR:

The golden fortress gates swing open

Warriors feast and gods recline

Barriers breached and locks are broken

Beholden portress waits the sign

Secret passage, secret storage

Secrets lost at last are mine-

Behind each door, a world of knowledge

Door to door, I peer inside

ISHTAR & THE NAMELESS GODS sing:

Door to door and down the golden hall
